Pine Grove’s Music Ministry
Music Director, Cheryl Campbell
Christmas Candlelight Service—Pine Grove holds a candlelight Christmas concert on the Sunday evening before Christmas each year. The Candlelight service includes vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles, as well as the vocal choir and handchime choir.
Praise Bands—There is a rotation of three praise bands that lead contemporary Christian music at our 11:00 a.m. service each week. At the beginning of the service, singers and instrumentalists in the praise bands lead the congregation in singing praise and worship songs.
Vocal Choir—During the Christmas and Easter seasons, a vocal choir participates during special services and Sunday morning worship services. This choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing choral music.
Handchime Choir—The handchime choir was formed at Pine Grove in 2007. The three-octave choir rehearses once a week from September through May, and performs during church services throughout the year and at the Christmas Candlelight Service. Though this group is not auditioned and no musical background is needed, the choir has a specific number of ringers needed and brings in new members only as positions become available.
Orchestra—The Pine Grove Orchestra debuted at Pine Grove’s Veterans Day church service in 2008. The orchestra is comprised of approximately 15-20 musicians who play a variety of string, wind, and brass instruments. The orchestra plays occasionally for special services and during Sunday morning worship services. The orchestra is open to adults and youth in grades 7-12.
Brass, String, and Woodwind Ensembles—Instrumentalists in quartets and ensembles often accompany the organ and piano during traditional hymns at the 8:30 a.m. worship services. They also contribute musical selections for both worship services throughout the year.
Children’s Music—At the beginning of the Sunday School hour each week, children ages kindergarten through 6th grade gather for a time of praise song worship. The children perform at the Children’s Christmas Program, and during a few church services throughout the year. The Children’s Christmas Program is usually held two Sundays before Christmas.
Special Music Offerings – During each worship service, there is at least one instrumental or vocal solo or ensemble that contributes a musical selection to the service. Selections are chosen from a wide variety of styles, and musicians vary in age and musical expertise.
